Fundraising 2008 – The Entertainment Book

January 31st, 2008 by Matthew

Last year the Club raised funds by the sale of The Entertainment Book. The Club has decided to participate again this year.

Many of you will already know about The Entertainment Book. Entertainment Books are distributed through fund-raising groups and organisations to help raise funds. The Entertainment Book was first created in 1962 and has been developed for major cities throughout the world.

The book contains hundreds of offers from Perth entertainment places eg. meals and movie passes (buy one get one free), 25% off many restaurants and 50% off accommodation throughout Australia.

The price of the book is $65.00 each. Using the book only 2 or 3 times covers this price. If you wish to see a copy of last year’s book to see what you actually get, please see Jenny Johnston.

If you wish to order a copy please post your name, how many books you would like and payment to Cottesloe Tennis Club, PO Box 12 Cottesloe WA 6911 or click on the link below to download an orderform.

Cottesloe Tennis Club Announcement

January 22nd, 2008 by Matthew

We wish to pass on this message from Ross Edwards regarding Mary Edwards, a long time member and former President of the Club.

Mary Edwards died early in the afternoon of Sunday 20th January 2008 aged 90 years and 11 days.

The celebration of her 90th birthday, which she so looked forward to, was threatened when 4 days beforehand she suffered a heart attack which hospitalised her until the eve of her birthday.

She had made up her mind she was going to enjoy this special day and the display of over 50 years of her paintings.

Despite feeling tired she made the day a triumph, and she was overwhelmed by seeing and chatting to all her friends and relatives that attended.

She had a great time and all her family rejoiced with her.

Two days later she was again rushed to hospital. This time she remained in for some 4 or 5 days while tests were done and she started to regain her old spark when she again returned to her home The Sundowner.

Unfortunately last Friday she suffered a further heart attack and her kidneys ceased to function and she died peacefully holding my hand on Sunday.

She suffered no pain throughout and I believe she was content to leave us as she increasingly became frustrated by the limitations her 90 year old body imposed on her normal activities.

There will be a celebratory farewell Church Service at the church she loved so much all her life, St Columba’s Presbyterian Church, corner Keane and Venn Sts, Peppermint Grove at 2:30pm on Thursday 24th January 2008. From here we will take her to Karrakatta for a brief committal service at 4:00pm.

Members who knew Mary may wish to attend.

Deep and sincere thanks,
Ross Edwards.
