Upcoming events at your Club

October 2nd, 2009 by Matthew

Opening Day 17th October from 2pm

Opening Day provides an opportunity for all members to dust off their rackets and launch into the new season with all the courts fresh from their winter rest. Come and catch up with your social tennis partners for what is usually the most bustling day of the season.  j0231976-0000

Come down and see the Club at its beautiful best with the formal Opening of the season during 3.30pm afternoon tea.

All members (men and women) are encouraged to please bring a plate of something tasty to add to the enjoyment of afternoon tea.

Guests and prospective members are very welcome as are mid-week members.

Annual Busy Bee  Sunday 11th October from 9am

The Annual Busy Bee provides an opportunity for everyone to do a little bit for the benefit of the whole Club by volunteering some of your time on a Sunday morning to work with House and Grounds director Derek Walker to prepare the Club for the new season.

Please grab your gardening gloves and come down to participate in helping our Club Grounds and Facilities stay amongst the best in the State.

A sausage sizzle will be provided at the end of the morning’s activities at the Club’s cost as a thank-you for your support.

This year it would be great to see a few new faces come down and join the regulars who contribute tirelessly to the Busy Bee every year from 9am Sunday morning.

Talk to Derek at the Club to find out if he has any special needs this year and let him know you will join the morning effort.

Season Opening Dinner and Bush Dance  Saturday 24th October 7pm

This years season opening event (held one week after the official opening day) looks set to be a classic!

With an Aussie Bush theme, great food from Zanders Catering (three chefs) and the live performing talents of the “True Blue Bush Band” tickets are selling fast and we need another 20 sign-ups on top of the eighty confirmed attendees to fill the room.

Dress up in bush style if you like or just come along in your own Aussie evening clothes.

Pop your name on the Board down at the Club or chat with Judi or Rachel and set aside just $40- for another great social function at the Clubhouse.

Mid-Week Opening Day  Tuesday 20th October from 8.30am

Mid-week Opening Day will include a delicious morning tea. All participants are encouraged to impress by bringing a plate to enjoy after tennis.

Join in for a wonderful morning of tennis catching up with all the Mid-week folks!

A Night To Remember

June 11th, 2009 by Matthew

A report from Social Director Judi Coffey:

Well they said “build it and they will come” – and they did, all 150 of them!.  The evening was themed to suit Peter O’Day’s (POD’s) 30 Years as Groundskeeper at Cottesloe Tennis Club – and they dressed accordingly !

Some of the stars spotted on the night included John McEnroe (Peter Dyson), ABBA (David and Georgia Culley), Mr Sparkle (Laurence Pace) and many many more who went to a huge effort for the night including the surprise appearance of guest band “ABBAsolutely not ABBA”.

A thank you to all the people who supplied pictures from 1979 for the presentation, and a big NO NO to the person with the sleight of hand who removed Rambo George (pennants organiser) and darling Dave’s (our tennis coach) photos, we worry about you.

The food was superb with thanks to Zanders catering, Scarborough Beach www.zanders.com.au, please go and have a meal there sometime.

To all the helpers and guests Cottesloe Tennis Club thanks you for your social input as well as your tennis.  We are a great fun Club because of all of you and what you put in.

EDITORS NOTE:  POD was heard to state after the event “that night was better than my wedding night” – when his wife Ivana heard this she replied …  ”I agree! ”

You are also invited to participate in a Survey of all Members of Tennis Australia (every member at Cottesloe pays affiliation to Tennis West and hence to Tennis Australia) details below:

Tennis Australia Member Survey T.A.M.S 08/09

Tennis Australia and your Member Association exist to service members so that we can manage and grow the game of tennis. Therefore, it is vitally important that we listen to and understand your needs.

The Tennis Australia Member Survey (T.A.M.S) project is in partnership with Griffith University and has been designed to help us achieve this. The project will be conducted over two seasons to capture the opinions of all our members.

Playing members will be surveyed in the 08–09 summer season and our nonplaying member, filling vital roles such as administrators and officials will be surveyed over the 09–10 summer season.

We are asking all players to complete a simple online survey three times throughout the 08–09 summer season that takes approximately 10 minutes to complete, and there are some great incentive prizes on offer (see below).

Tennis has many different kinds of players and we want to hear from all of you, whether you are just starting out or have played for years.

Visit: http://onlinesurvey.rcs.griffith.edu.au/business/index.php?sid=23483&lang=en

HAVE YOUR SAY AND HELP US HELP YOU!

Contacts:
Anthony Beaton, Griffith University: a.beaton@griffith.edu.au
Brenda Tierney, Tennis Australia: btierney@tennis.com.au

Important information:

• Thirty names will be randomly drawn to receive a prize each round of the survey.

• Entry into the draw for a major prize for those who complete all three surveys.

Paul McNamee comes to Cott

December 18th, 2008 by Matthew

Last weekend the Cottesloe Tennis Club Junior Club were fortunate to enjoy a visit from one of Australia’s most successful doubles players – Paul McNamee – who won 24 men’s doubles titles including four Grand Slam doubles titles in his career (twice winning the Wimbledon Championship doubles with Peter McNamara).

Paul spent time with the kids through the morning and then stepped up as an honorary member of our State League team to play doubles with club coach David Culley.

A few photos are shown below.  Paul will be about the Club over the coming few weeks during his stay in Perth.

Much thanks to Paul for spending time with the kids and for showing David Culley that he can play doubles on the forehand side too!
