Cottesloe Chosen to Host Davis Cup Tie 2014

Australia will defend their hard-earned place in the Davis Cup World Group on a grass court in Perth in September.

Captain Pat Rafter’s team must win the play off with Uzbekistan at Cottesloe Tennis Club from September 12-14 2014 to stay amongst the top 16 nations.

Rafter welcomed the home advantage and venue announced yesterday against an Uzbekistan team likely to be headed by world No 49 Denis Istomin.

Margaret Court Vice Patron

The Cottesloe Tennis Club is proud to announce that Margaret Court AO MBE, widely recognised as one of the all time great international tennis players, has accepted an invitation to be the club’s vice patron.

The winner of a record 24 Grand Slam singles titles during her career, including all four Grand Slam titles in 1970, Margaret has been an Honorary Member of the club for many years and her new role will further strengthen that association.

“It is particularly timely that a person of such high international status should accept our vice patron role at a time when Cottesloe is hosting the Davis Cup,” club president David Chadwick said. “Margaret was a strong advocate for us being granted the Cup tie and her presence and input will play a role in its success.”

Scott Wins his First ATF Title

Scott Jones
Cottesloe State League player Scott Jones recently won his first International Tennis Federation title at the 2014 Technifibre Championships in New Zealand.

Scott defeated the number one and four seeded players on his way to the title, and in doing so lowered his world junior ITF ranking to 369.

Scott has been a strong performer for the Cottesloe State League team during the past summer and won all but two of his singles matches.

He has been mentored and assisted by his State League leader Andrew Roberts and the pair have developed into a formidable doubles combination.

Governors Charity Day 2013

The Cottesloe Tennis Club can be proud of the outcome from the Governor’s Charity Tennis Day held at the Club on Friday April 20th 2013.

The Governor and the Tennis Club decided the funds from the day would be donated to Variety WA.

As part of this decision it was also agreed that part of the funds raised by the day would be channelled through Variety WA to two Tennis related charities. In 2013 these charities were:

· Wheel Chair Tennis through Wheel Chair Sports WA Association.

· Indigenous Tennis through Murlpirrmarra Connection.

The event has proved a significant benefit to these charities as their programs are not only supported by the Governors Charity Tennis Day, but now also embraced by Variety, Tennis Australia and Tennis West.
